Congratulations are in order because there is a brand new bundle of joy at Potter Park Zoo in Lansing!

Potter Park Zoo has a multitude of exhibits, spanning mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. But, not all of them have had babies recently. Only one animal resident has, and that's the red panda!

A Red Panda Cub was Born at Potter Park Zoo

The new baby was born to mom Maleiha and dad Degan-Reid on June 19th. Although the cub is nearly a month old at this writing, Potter Park Zoo only announced the happy news on July 9th via their social media.

I had no idea that red pandas were born deaf and blind! That's the kind of fact you find on the underside of a Snapple lid. But I'm getting off track here...

If you watch the adorable video and read the caption, you'll know that mom and cub are doing great. We don't yet know what the cub's name is, but I'm sure we'll learn soon enough.

For now, cub and mom are hanging out together in their nest box. And once the cub hits the two-month mark, that's about the time they can start exploring outside the nest. Until then, mom and cub will not be on exhibit.

I can't wait until the baby gets a bit bigger and we see them all hanging out or playing. I feel like the red pandas are one of the cutest exhibits at Potter Park Zoo because let's not forget about the otters!
