The QD Donut Drought Is Over: Here’s When They’re Back
OK, Mid-Michigan. You can stop looking longingly at that empty spot in the Quality Dairy donut case.
The donuts are coming back.

After nearly a week without one of the Lansing area's favorite morning rituals, Quality Dairy announced Wednesday that its bakery has been cleared to resume operations.
And yes, that means the QD donut drought is just about over.
When Will QD Donuts Be Back?
According to an update posted to Quality Dairy's Facebook page, the bakery crew is heading back to work, with donuts and rolls beginning to return to store shelves Thursday morning, October 15.
More bakery favorites are expected Friday, October 16.
Now, that doesn't necessarily mean QD will have every single thing immediately. But after the past week, I'll take whatever gets us one step closer to a fresh donut.
Why Did Quality Dairy Stop Making Donuts?
If you missed last week's story, Quality Dairy temporarily suspended bakery production October 8 after a state inspection revealed sanitation and pest control concerns.

The company said it was working to address those issues and wouldn't start baking again until it met Michigan's food safety requirements.
That hurdle has now been cleared.

QD thanked its customers for their patience and credited the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development for its guidance and oversight throughout the process.
For a company that's been part of Lansing life for 90 years, that's good news.

And for those of us who've been walking into QD and finding something other than our usual donut?

That's enough to make a morning commute feel a little better.
Thursday morning can't get here soon enough.
