The World’s Deadliest Creature is Returning to Michigan Soon

Sure, you're tired of the frigid temps, bitingly cold winds, and dark, dreary Michigan winter days. You want warmth, you want sunshine, you want temperatures above 50 degrees for more than the blink of an eye.

However, it's that exact kind of weather that will usher the world's deadliest creature back into Michigan.

These things carry numerous diseases with them, and, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), they kill "more people than any other creature in the world". These things suck... literally.

The dreaded mosquito.

I don't know about you, but I'm an absolute mosquito magnet, no matter how much protection I have on, so I am not happy about mosquitos coming back. And to know that they're the deadliest animal on the planet doesn't make me feel any better.

Sure, the itchy red bumps they leave behind can be a nuisance, but the diseases they spread are much worse. Mosquitoes can spread

• malaria
• dengue
• West Nile
• yellow fever
• Zika
• chikungunya
• lymphatic filariasis

Once temperatures consistently stay above 50 degrees, that's when mosquitoes can return. And even though Michigan can stay pretty cold well into spring, we've also had some extremely warm ends to winter.

Thankfully, Mosquito Magnet says that Michigan is likely in the clear for a few months still. Their infographic shows "mosquito season" starting in May for Michigan.

Mosquitoes love hot weather and standing water, so start looking around the house and yard to see what can be done to make your place less inviting to mosquitoes. Things that collect water; get rid of them. A clogged gutter; clean them. Plants that mosquitoes hate; plant them around the house. And good luck this mosquito season.
