Severe Weather, Possible Tornadoes in Mid-Michigan Tonight
Another round of severe storms could affect parts of Lower Michigan Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, forecasters say.
Areas closest to the Indiana border appear to be most at risk, although experts warn strong storms could develop anywhere in Southern Michigan.
Where Severe Storms Are Most Likely in Lower Michigan
"Rotating updrafts will likely produce a hail threat over a larger area including both the I-94 and I-96 corridors," according to the National Weather Service office out of Grand Rapids. "The wind threat will likely be closer to I-94 as points north will be deeper behind the warm front into the cool air meaning more elevated storms."
Storm Timing: When Severe Weather Could Hit
Forecasters warn that any storms that push up from the south into the warm front (wherever it ends up) could produce tornadoes. The time frame of most concern in Southern Michigan is from 9 p.m. Tuesday night through about 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The forecasting service AccuWeather is in relative agreement with the National Weather Service's assessment as to what parts of Michigan are most at risk tonight. They think numerous severe storms are likely south of I-94 and particularly west of I-69 — potentially targeting the same areas that were hammered by tornadoes late last week.
Heavy Rain and Flooding Also Possible
According to WILX News 10 Chief Meteorologist Darrin Rockcole in Lansing, heavy rainfall will be the primary concern further north, including areas near the state's capital city.

"This heavy rain could lead to flooding in poor drainage areas and across small streams," Rockcole warns. He agrees tornadoes are possible, especially in areas south of I-94.
