I had to make a grocery run today. It wasn't a big list, so instead of going to a bigger, busier store, I went to my favorite locally owned grocer: Westlund's Apple Market.

And basically what follows is my ode to my favorite local Lansing grocery store.

If you've been to Westlund's Apple Market, you know what a gem of a place it is. But if you've never had the pleasure of going, allow me to tell you about how wonderful this place is.

This small grocery store carries fresh-baked bread every day. From hotdog buns to sourdough to English muffins, they're always a delicious carb on the bread rack.

The meat department takes great pride in their fresh cuts, and always happy to make sure something special is available for you.

You can even special order custom things like ground kibbeh and hushweh meat.

Westlund's Apple Market is More Than Your Average Grocery Store

Like most stores, Apple Market has you covered with fresh produce, pantry staples, household supplies, and the like. However, most stores don't have the delicious selection of pre-made foods to-go like Apple Market does.

There's a fully stocked salad bar every day.

If you want hot food, there's always a rotating daily menu.

And if none of that is tickling your fancy, you can enjoy some of the best roasted chicken around.

Get yourself a couple of hot or cold sides, and you've got yourself lunch or dinner.

Also, did you know there's a killer vinyl collection, too?

I remember one visit I made some time ago where I came in for some roasted chicken, and left with a roasted chicken, an Eminem album, and an Eagles album. The selection — which is curated by a mix of patron, employee, and owner suggestions —  is always impeccable.

All in all, I don't know what I'd do without Westlund's Apple Market. It's an amazing local business that I'm happy to patronize.
