Mount Morris Teacher Busted Smuggling Drugs Into Michigan Jail
A Mount Morris High School teacher has been arrested for smuggling drugs to inmates at the Genesee County Jail in Flint, Michigan.
According to FOX 2 News, Merideth Ann Leyrer, 54, was caught on camera passing an envelope filled with 135 fentanyl pills to an inmate on Monday, July 17th, 2023.
Leyrer had access to Genessee County Jail inmates involved in the Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education. IGNITE is a program for inmates to rehabilitate and learn skills.
Reports indicate Merideth Leyrer began abusing her access to inmates in 2022. The teacher even put money into accounts for three inmates. The men were named and are as follows,
- Todd Cardoza
- Deandre Arrington
- Marquise Coleman
Along with the fentanyl pills, Leyrer is also accused of bringing a cell phone into the jail for inmates, as well as marijuana wax.
Why would a Leyrer do something like this? According to Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, she claims to suffer from low self-esteem and said she was groomed by the prisoners.
It sounds like a made-for-TV movie, but unfortunately, it is real life. As for Merideth Leyrer, she is behind bars, being held on a $20,000 bond.
