Michigan Ranks in Top 10 for Most Dispensaries
In the U.S. today, there are 40 or so states that have legalized marijuana for medical use. And, recently, the legalization of medical marijuana for recreational use has been spreading across the country as well.
So, the question is simple. Which states have the most dispensaries per capita across the United States? The following information is based on the number of dispensaries per 100,000 people in a particular area.
This State Took #1 for Most Dispensaries Per Capita
According to Cannabis Now, the beautiful state of Oregon topped the list, offering a whopping 16.5 dispensaries per 100,000 people. Amazingly enough, this number of dispensaries only brought them to 4th in the nation when it comes to the tax revenue of $94.4 million they had garnered at the time of this study in February 2020.
Where Does Michigan Rank?
It just so happens that Michigan, with the help of the recently-passed recreational marijuana, did make the list at #9. According to the study, Michigan has 1.7 dispensaries for every 100,000 people. We contributed around $2.4 million in marijuana taxes at the time of this study.
What Does This Mean for Non-Marijuana Users
First off, 1.7 dispensaries per 100,000 people doesn't seem like much compared to other states that made the list. But the $2.4 million in tax revenue, which has likely continued to grow, is worth mentioning.
Whether you need marijuana for medical reasons, enjoy marijuana for recreational reasons, or flat out detest marijuana for your own reasons, one thing is for sure: it is here to stay.
So, the next time something marijuana-related puts you in a funky mood, remember, you don't have to use it to benefit from it. Just focus on the millions in tax revenue it provides for our home state of Michigan.
