We are pretty confident in saying this is a list you won't see anyone bragging about making, and if rats aren't your thing, brace yourself.

Orkin just released its annual list of the Top 50 Most Rat-Infested Citiesand three Michigan cities were included due to some serious rodent issues, with one making the Top 10. Orkin notes "Mice and rats are a serious concern to the millions of homeowners who deal with infestations each fall. As the weather cools, rodents seek warm shelter and food sources."

To compile this year’s list Orkin used data that was collected by tracking new residential rodent treatments from September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024. From that date, Orkin can better understand how likely homeowners in each city are to have a rodent problem which can cause some serious damage as well as spread disease.

“Rodents can cause a lot of structural problems for property owners,” says John Kane, Orkin National Accounts Entomologist & Quality Manager. “They can get in around piping and even chew through walls. These tiny culprits tend to chew through wiring, which poses an increased risk of fires.”

What Michigan Cities Made List of Most Rat-Infested in America?

So how did Michigan cities do when it came to rat problems? Once again this year Flint, Grand Rapids, and Detroit all made the list with the 'D' making the infamous Top Ten. The Michigan rankings looked like this;

#8 Detroit ( up 1 spot from last year)

#27 Grand Rapids ( down 2 spots from last year)

#42 Flint (up 1 spot from last year)

As for the top spot, Chicago is still King of the Rats for 10 years running. Orkin decided to turn lemons into lemonade and celebrate Chicago holding on to the #1 spot. They have taken the crown since Orkin started releasing the yearly list...if that makes it any better.
