Michigan Man Has a Hard Time Convincing His Wife He’s Won a $1M Jackpot
An Interlochen man says his wife didn't believe him when he told her they'd won $1 million on a Mega Millions ticket from the Michigan Lottery. Interlochen is in Northwest Michigan, about 14 miles south of Traverse City.
Kyle Becker matched all five white balls in the October 27 Mega Millions drawing to win $1 million. He was on his way to his property to go hunting when he stopped to check the numbers on his ticket.
"I usually buy a Mega Millions ticket every few weeks," said Becker. "I got a message to file a claim at the Lottery office when I scanned it, so I asked the clerk what that meant. She told me I must have won big, and when I asked how big, she thought maybe a couple thousand dollars."
But the store clerk had severely underestimated how much Becker had won. He tells the Michigan Lottery that when got out to his truck, he decided to look up the numbers for the drawing on his phone and learned that he'd won a $1 million jackpot.
His Wife Didn't Believe Him
Becker went on to say that he called his wife to share the good news, but she really didn't believe him.
"When I told my wife how much we won, she didn’t believe me until I sent her a picture of the ticket," he said. "I was having a hard time believing it myself, but I couldn’t verify the prize until Monday morning when the Lottery office opened."
Becker tells the Lottery that he plans to use the prize money to pay off some bill and live debt free.
