Michigan is making a splash in the wine country scene, and it's not just about the grapes! Two of the state's picturesque hotels have been recognized as the best wine country hotels in America, with one snagging the top spot.

Those who have never experienced it may be surprised to learn that Michigan has some of the finest wineries in the world. For years the West Coast has been considered a wine country, but the Mitten State has something to say about that and now the country is beginning to agree.

USA Today recently released the results of its yearly USA Today 10Best Reader's Choice Awards. Each year readers weigh in on their top picks for the "best" in various categories. In the "Best Winery Hotels in the United States" category, Michigan made the list with not one, but two locations being honored, and one of them being crowned the best of the best.

Which Michigan Hotels Made USA Today's List of Best Winery Hotels in the U.S.?USA

Today's 10Best list has crowned Chateau Chantal, located just north of Traverse City, as the number one wine country hotel in the nation. This charming estate, with its stunning vineyard views and elegant accommodations, beat out competitors from the more traditionally celebrated wine regions, including California. Last year Chateau Chantal took #2, so this was a sweet victory.

"Chateau Chantal, located just north of Traverse City, Michigan, combines a vineyard and winery with luxurious B&B lodging. All suites and rooms have exceptional views of vineyards or Grand Traverse Bay, many with private patios or balconies, and several that offer wet bars and whirlpool tubs. The inn’s amenities include fireplaces and sitting areas, plus an exceptional breakfast", USA Today said.

But Chateau Chantal isn't the only Michigan gem to make the list.  The Inn at Black Star Farms also earned a prestigious spot, ranking third. Known for giving guests perfect access to wineries and tasting rooms on the Old Mission and Leelanau Wine Trails, the inn is a popular spot for overnights on the Traverse Wine Coast.

"The Inn at Black Star Farms puts guests in the heart of the Traverse Wine Coast, with easy access to wineries and tasting rooms on the Old Mission and Leelanau wine trails. Each stay includes a daily breakfast, nightly hospitality hour with wine and small bites, a bottle of house wine, and an exclusive barrel room tasting", said USA Today on the pick.
