Sail Away with Cool Delights: Michigan Has a Floating Ice Cream Boat
Seriously, why didn't someone think of this sooner? We live in a state where you're never more than 85 miles from a Great Lake and never more than 6 miles from a body of water. With those stats a floating ice cream boat makes sense, and now it's making money.
Newlyweds Megan Ward and Isaiah Kinney got the memo when it comes to summer in Michigan and all the deliciousness that goes with it. They are the proud owners of Ice Cream Afloat, believed to be the first if not one of the first, floating ice cream boats on Michigan waters.
You won't find yourself running down the street to catch this ice cream truck, but more of sailing right up alongside the unique sweet treat vessel. The Ice Cream Afloat is an adorable pink pontoon boat that travels the water around West Michigan selling all those yummy sweet summer treats we love.
The duo told Mlive they got the idea to open the floating treat stop from a similar business they discovered in West Virginia a few years ago. The idea stuck and the couple moved to Michigan and gave it a shot.
“The idea stuck with me,” Ward told MLive/The Grand Rapids Press. “I just thought, ‘What a great job. How could you be mad going to work every day if your job was to sell ice cream on a boat and make people happy?’ I just loved it.”
Ice Cream Afloat operates on weekends and serves up treats from Klondike Ice Cream Bars, Blue Bunny, Good Humor’s King Cones, Magnum Ice Cream Bars, and more with prices starting at $4. Ice Cream Afloat visits the waters around West Michigan and posts its sailing schedule on its Facebook page.
