Preserve Your Halloween Pumpkins

Do you have WD40 in the house or garage? You may want to grab it to do the trick that will help your carved pumpkin last longer.

You could also bathe your pumpkin! Sounds crazy, right?

Before you place it outside, put your pumpkin in a diluted bleach solution to help neutralize bacteria and mold. Using this bath method will help to slow down the decomposition process.

All you have to do is mix one part bleach to 10 parts water in a large container and let small pumpkins bathe in the solution for two minutes.

Make sure you stir them around to ensure that all sides of the pumpkins are covered. After the pumpkins' quick bath, let the pumpkins dry completely before setting them in their designated home. Be sure that the base of the stem is dry.

Another method you can try is moisturizing your pumpkin.
If you decide to carve your pumpkins, you extend the pumpkins' life by rubbing petroleum jelly around the carved edges. If you don’t have petroleum jelly on hand, you can also use olive or coconut oil.

Finally, keep your pumpkin in a cool, shaded area. If the nights get particularly chilly, bring your pumpkin inside to protect it from the Michigan frost.
