Recently I was doing some work at our home in the Lansing area. I was really in depth into my project until I was distracted by what I thought was a very familiar sound. My ears perked up as if I was 10 years old again because I thought I had heard the ice cream truck coming through my neighborhood. I immediately started looking for change and cash and beckoned our kids to head outside to be on the lookout for the ice cream man.

Although the sound I heard was only the windchime, the trip in the way back machine was priceless. Then I started to wonder whatever happened to the ice cream man or ice cream trucks that used to drive our neighborhood streets from sunup to sundown. Where have they gone?

Going to the store to get ice cream is what we do. We can also go to any of our local favorite ice cream proprietors but the days of the ice cream man rolling throught the neighborhood are missed. There was something special about dropping everything you were doing to get an ice cream treat in the middle of whatever you were doing. How about an orange push up at 2:18pm in the afternoon. Did the ice cream truck give us a chance to live life more spontaneously?
