Should your house be condemned because the utilities are shut off?

The Lansing State Journal reports that 87 year old Jane Stokes and her 62 year old daughter Catherine Lynch had the power shut off to their home on North Cedar Street between Holt and Mason.  The power was cut because they were more than $2,000.00 behind on paying their utility bill.Their planned work-around was to use a generator until they could catch up on what they owe. Delhi Township said, "Nope."

Their home was condemned and they had to vacate the premises. Ingham County Sheriff's deputies came to their house and told them they had to find somewhere else to stay.

Get all the particulars here of how things played out. Think this was a case of government overreach?
