Last week we told you here that Lansing Community College's 89.7 FM WLNZ Radio was going off the air as it was going to be no longer funded by the college because of budgetary concerns.

This was bad news for local broadcasting because not only is the non-commercial, community station and it's multi-genre format a Lansing institution, but it has always been a wonderful training ground for up and coming broadcasters. Lansing Community College had long ended classes that taught radio broadcasting, but if you were interested in becoming a radio personality and wanted to learn the business by actually participating in the workings of a real radio station, WLNZ was your place to do that. You could literally show up and volunteer at the station and be around and trained by some of the best in the business. You would invest in helping the station while you were investing in yourself and what could be your future career. Many people who have been employed here at what is now Townsquare Media Lansing had gotten a start at LCC Radio. Some are even still employed here, others have moved on to broadcasting jobs all across America.

Now, word has it that the community heard that WLNZ would be going of the air, and the community responded. The college received lots of messages of support for the radio station and according to the Lansing City Pulse, the college was listening.

In a meeting last night with the Lansing Community College's Board of Trustees, LCC president Dr. Brent Knight said that now WLNZ will not be going of the air. This of course is good news but how the college plans on making that happen is still a question.
