Listen to Tool’s New Album ‘Fear Inoculum’
Tool has released their long-awaited fifth album Fear Inoculum and made it available for streaming in full.
The launch marks the end of fans’ 13-year wait for the follow-up to 10,000 Days, and comes soon after the band finally made their catalog available via digital platforms.
You can listen to 10-track title Fear Inoculum – consisting of seven songs with three segues – at Apple Music or via Spotify, below:
Guitarist Adam Jones recently said he hadn’t felt any pressure to deliver the new album until it was ready, explaining: “the writing is the same, and that’s the thing I really like about it. We really suffer for our art – which you should do. If it’s worth having, it’s worth suffering for. We’re not trying to worry about if it’s going to be accepted or is it gonna be like the last record. You take the same path, but then go on a different path, and then just make sure the four of us are happy. It’s a reflective process.”
He allowed: “It has been a while. I never felt pressure, though. I felt anxiety because they would blame our singer, and it’s not his fault. We all have our own things going on – lives, families, other projects, other interests – so it’s ready when it’s ready.”
But drummer Danny Carey later said that frontman Maynard James Keenan had received death threats over the long wait, explaining: “I felt bad for him… He even told me he was getting death threats from these idiots out there. They just have no idea what our work ethic is. These things don’t happen, man. There’s no other record that’s going to sound like this Tool record. What you hear is what you get, and what you get is what it takes to get it done. And it’s not an easy process.”
When the release date was finally announced, Keenan described the moment as “a weight lifted off my chest.” He elaborated: “It took a lot of work," he said. "The four of us are a lot of fucking work just to get anywhere. Oh my God – everything’s a fucking committee meeting and always gets shot down.”
