Boy oh boy, did I open a can of worms. I recently asked on Facebook, what was your favorite hot lunch at school when you were growing up? The response blew my mind.

When I was a kid, I could tell what we were having for lunch because of the aroma that overtook our school. If it was Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes & gravy and corn day, you knew it. You could smell the gravy cooking and whatever the "steak" was.

Lunch menus have changed too. Ours were simple. If it was pizza day (I loved the pizza rectangles), the menu would read something like: pizza square, buttered corn, sliced peaches and milk. Nowadays they have better menu options in school and cater the description of the food to make it more appealing to the kids.

Things I didn't have on my menu growing up were Bosco Sticks. I also didn't have multiple food stations serving up all kinds of food from around the world. I think that's great. When I was growing up we were served sides of lead paint chips and asbestos. Sarcasm aside, I liked hot lunch. I never had anything that made me puke. That's a win.

I took a poll here at the radio station and the overwhelming favorite for my coworkers was pizza. Pizza was very popular according to your responses regarding hot lunch.

Were you the type of person to slurp up the juice from the canned peaches that had puddled on your tray? I was.
