Where is the Best Travel Spot in the U.S.? USA Today Says Mackinac Island!
You may be planning a summer vacation for you and your family. Where would you want to go? Something beachie maybe, exotic, foreign? How would you like to stay right here at home, kinda sorta, in Michigan?
Thousands of Michiganders do choose to stay home, so to speak, because we have so many wonderful places to visit and enjoy. Plus, we have, what USAToday says is the number one spot for travelers to visit in the U.S.
MACKINAC ISLAND
UpNorthLive.com reported that Mackinac Island is getting the top spot in tourism, being named the best summer travel destination in the country. That is quite an honor. USAToday says:
"Between Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas, you’ll find Mackinac Island, where you’ll ride on horse-drawn carriages along car-free roads, observe fudge being made (and then sample it) and tour the historic Fort Mackinac. This Lake Huron-based continental island is also home to Mackinac Island State Park, where you can hike, bike, kayak, and take photos of the local natural beauty, including the stunning limestone Arch Rock."
Are you wondering how this came about? Well, it was created by travel editors along with a panel of experts for the must-see spots this summer.
FORT MACKINAC & VIEW OF ISLAND
I love Mackinac Island, and can't wait to get back to sample Original Murdick's Fudge among other treats.
MURDICK'S FUDGE & BOB BENSER
Owner Bob Benser, here shooting a segment for CBS Sunday Morning, has long been one of the great leaders of the island and it's growth. And, Murdick's along with many other businesses, opened for the unofficial start of the season Friday, including the carriage tours.
THE GRAND HOTEL
What about the Grand Hotel? It fully opens for its 137th season coming this Friday, May 5, 2023.
It's also hard to believe that the island will celebrate the 125th anniversaries for both the motorized vehicle ban and the historic Wawashkamo Golf Club. I must play there this year!
Don't forget the 75th anniversaries for the signature Lilac Festival and iconic Pink Pony restaurant.
No doubt Mackinac Island is a very special place for all of us in Michigan. Now it's going to be even more so for travelers world wide!
By the way, if you are wondering what else USAToday chose as top travel destinations, here is the top 10-list.
