WILX.com is reporting that a group of supporters for legalized marijuana use in Michigan has officially collected and submitted enough valid signatures to put the issue on this November's statewide election ballot.

The Michigan Board of State Canvassers made the ruling Thursday. This means the effort to legalize recreational marijuana use will first be presented to the State Legislature. If lawmakers do not vote to enact the ballot proposal into law, it will be put to voters to decide this fall.

According to the report, roughly 365,000 signatures of registered voters were submitted. An estimated 277,000 were deemed valid by the Michigan Secretary of State. 250,000 valid signatures were needed to get the issue on this year's ballot.
