Employers here in Michigan are getting creative in finding ways to get workers back on the job so they can keep their businesses going. Due to the pandemic and many collecting unemployment with an added $300 per week coming from the Federal government, folks just are not in a hurry to get back to work. Just about every fast food business in town has signs posted that they are hiring.

Denso Manufacturing in Battle Creek has now increased their second shift worker pay from $18 to $20 per hour for entry level employees. They look at it as a way to attract new workers and to better support current workers. Denso is one of Battle Creek's biggest employers with over 2000 employees.

“The move represents DENSO’s larger commitment to supporting better work/life balance for its employees and giving them opportunities to grow their income and career, while also meeting customer needs”, a company official said. It also comes at a time when there is a record 9.3 million jobs open nationwide, according to an April report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Manufacturing employment is down 481,000 jobs since February 2020, according to the report.

This company is a $44.6 billion global supplier, they supply components for many different makes of vehicles. Their headquarters are in Southfield, Denso has more than 168,000 employees spread out over 200 locations around the world.
