Michigan Ranks in Top 10 States for Professional Sports
Detroit is home to four professional sports teams. While the Lions look like they could make the playoffs this year, Detroit has been hurtin'. Regardless of the teams in Detroit, the fans still show up.
I get it. Don't hate me, I'm a die hard Cubs fan and can relate to losing seasons and not making the playoffs or playing for world championships. Detroit is blue collar and it's a hard working city. I think the teams that play in Detroit understand that about their fans.
At the end of the day, as fans we pay money to watch our teams WIN. Nowadays when you go to a game of any sort, it's an entertainment experience. What happens during timeouts, pitching changes, end of innings, intermissions at hockey games, helps bring fans back. Professional sports teams try to get the fans involved to make it a more interactive experience.
When it comes to the top states for sports teams, Business Insider did a study to determine the best states for professional sports teams and used the following criteria:
We ranked every state on how well their sports teams in the five major North American professional sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS) performed in five categories: number of teams in the state, how many different sports have pro teams in the state, pro teams per capita, how much it costs to go to a game, and of course, the number of championships won by that state's teams.
Of the 50 states (sorry, DC and Canada), 24 do not have a professional team in one of the five major leagues. That leaves 26 states to battle for title of Best Pro Sports State.
We will look at the top 10 states for professional sports teams.
