The big day is finally here, the 2020 elections are fully underway. With Covid-19 raging in many parts of the country, it has made this election year more challenging than ever before. Most of us are aware of the heavy absentee voting across the country this year, due to the pandemic. As of election day morning 3.1 million Michiganders have already voted absentee. They are anticipating another 2 million votes will be cast today. Michigan has about 8 million registered voters (about half the population of New York). Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said “Today we are on track to seeing record breaking turnout overall.” She also noted that when the polls close today at 8pm, she would have a better idea of when the count will be completed.

The Michigan Supreme Court never responded to a request from Benson and Attorney General Dana Nessel, following up on challenges made to the legality of a directive issued on Oct.16 that prohibits the open carry of firearms in limited locations on Election Day.

ClickonDetroit Reports:

”The bottom line is voter intimidation is still illegal in the State of Michigan. Many state and local law enforcement agencies are out to ensure that is the case and to ensure smooth sailing at the polls. My goal is to protect the health and safety of every single voter and make sure they have a good experience and notably the Court of Appeals mentioned anyone who intimidates voters by brandishing a firearm is committing a felony under existing law in our state.

As far as the risk of Covid-19, all polling places are following safety guidelines provided by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). If you are going to the polls to vote today, be sure to protect yourself and others by wearing a mask, social distance at least 6 feet, and continue to wash your hands often.

We are not going to know the results of this election for days, but we will have a result just like we have in every other election in the history of the United States of America. How we get to those results remains to be seen. It is going to be an interesting week.
