Michigan State Police issued a warning to Michigan residents Friday, including those in the Lansing Area, to prepare for the quickly changing weather conditions coming this weekend thanks to another blast of winter weather.

Weather is expected to impact the entire state, with the brunt of the winter weather expected to impact travel along and north of I-96. Locally, strong winds combined with freezing rain and snow could result in extended power outages. Road conditions will definitely deteriorate beginning Friday night and Saturday morning.

In the northern Lower and southern Upper peninsulas, areas could see a foot or more of snow.

MSP wants residents to be sure that cell phones and other electronic devices are fully charged in case of a power outage. Officials also encourage folks to only drive if necessary when conditions warrant, and to give extra travel time if driving is necessary.

Motorists can check for road closures at www.michigan.gov/drive. For travel conditions and weather reports, visit www.michigan.gov/roadconditions.
