From what I understand (correct me if I have this wrong) CBD is a component of medical marijuana, derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. (THC is the compound in marijuana that causes the "high" feeling) CBD is being used to treat many medical conditions in humans, such as epileptic seizures. It's also used as a natural remedy for anxiety, insomnia, depression and pain. I know people who swear by it.

And now, people are using CBD products to treat their pets. According to MLive.com, sales of CBD pet products have increased in the U.S. from $8 million in 2017 to $32 million in 2018. It's estimated that number will reach over $1 billion in two years.

But veterinarians in Michigan can't legally initiate discussion with pet owners about the products, even it they think it might help. On the flip side they can't even discuss the potential risks of pets being exposed to marijuana, which will probably be a problem now that recreational marijuana is legal in Michigan. Some vets and Michigan lawmakers are working to change the laws.

Here's the story. Have you given your pet CBD products?
