Mid-Michigan Lawmaker Proposes Bill To Tighten-up Gun Rentals
WILX.com is reporting that Senator Rick Jones of Grand Ledge has an idea to help tighten up regulations regarding the rental of firearms in Michigan.
The bill is introduced after a murder-suicide last month in a Lansing Township store. The weapon used by the shooter was rented from a local gun retailer's range, but never returned. The murder victim had a personal protection order against the shooter.
The bill introduced by Jones would require one of three criteria to be met: the renter holds a Concealed Pistol License, a permit to purchase a handgun, or to pass a National Instant Criminal Background Check. Additionally, dealers would have to notify law enforcement agency if a renter fails the background check. And, somebody with a suspended Concealed Pistol License would have to surrender their card to their county clerk.
