MSU’s Tony Lippett Hauls In B1G Award For Best WR
What do career highs in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns lead to? Being the Big Ten Conference leader in receiving yards per game and receiving touchdowns. That, in turn, leads to the conference award for best wide receiver. Michigan State's Tony Lippett was named the Big Ten Conference Receiver of the Year today. Lippett racked up 60 catches this season for 1,124 receiving yards (93.7 YPG) and 11 touchdowns. According to this article at mlive.com, Lippett is only the fourth receiver in Spartan Football history that has eclipsed 50 catches, 1,000 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns in a single season. Digging up the record book, I found that B.J. Cunningham (2011), Charles Rogers (2001, 2002), and Plaxico Burress (1999) are the only others to have achieved the feat.
Lippett was also named to the All-Conference First Team Offense along with MSU Center Jack Allen. Shilique Calhoun, Kurtis Drummond, and Trae Waynes were all named to the All-Conference First Team Defense. Quarterback Connor Cook, Offensive Linemen Travis Jackson and Jack Conklin, and Linebacker Taiwan Jones all received Second Team accolades.
