The state of Michigan is absolutely loaded with haunted locations…and I don’t mean the annual “haunted houses” that are put on every Halloween. I’m talkin’ ‘bout the ones that are believed to actually contain some sort of paranormal activity.

The ten locations listed below are just a tip of the iceberg. This is not a Top Ten list, just a list of ten locations, centered in the northern part of the Michigan Mitten that are worth seeking out for more info and history.

BOYNE FALLS JAIL CELL
This particular jail cell is said to contain paranormal activity. Curiosity seekers and investigators have captured some odd pictures and video footage – orbs with actual facial features, ectoplasmic mists, and other strange figures hovering around this old cell. Location HERE.

CHEBOYGAN TRAIN DEPOT
A man kept smashing his head against a tree stump until his skull finally gave way and split open...he died instantly. The legend says if you're in that area around 1:00 in the morning, you can hear the thud...thud...thud...of his skull and a faint, but frantic voice asking "why am I here?”... Find out more HERE.

DROWNING POOL
See-saw dunking wasn't the only torture at the Drowning Pool...other suspects had their feet bound with heavy rocks and then were thrown into the pool. If they floated, they were witches and were hung. If they were innocent, they sank to the bottom and drowned anyway. Ever since, this pool and the area surrounding it are haunted by the innocent women who perished at the hands of ignorant, pious townspeople, with dark apparitions seen lurking in deep water. More can be found HERE.

JOHN A. LAU SALOON
If Agnes isn't fond of a certain employee, she will make her feelings known: she has thrown things at them, made them drop their trays, tipped trays over, and pranked them mercilessly. She is also fond of scaring employees when they go into the basement, which is scary enough without her help. Read her story HERE.

LAKE SOLITUDE
It’s a somewhat unsettling little lake, with no houses or boats around. It’s stuck in a swampy area with seemingly only one tiny dirt road that heads back to it, and it’s gated so you can’t get through. Local residents say they’ve seen the apparitions of sailors along the shoreline. The tale is HERE.

OASIS RED BULL TAVERN
A man was found hung here and then the weird stuff started to happen. Footsteps were heard throughout the building at night after closing. Items were being moved by unseen hands...bar items, storeroom inventory, chairs, etc. Take a look HERE.

PERE CHENEY
Pere Cheney is known far and wide as the #1 Most Haunted Place in Michigan, the #1 Witch Grave in Michigan and #2 Witch Grave in the United States, behind 'Bloody Mary' in Indiana. True or not, that doesn't stop paranormal activity from occurring. The legend is HERE.

PRESQUE ISLE LIGHTHOUSE
After the lighthouse keeper passed away, the light comes on by itself at dusk and turns off by itself at dawn...and it's NOT because of a 'light-sensitive' mechanism. What's even weirder, is that it still comes on & off after it was disabled some time ago. Info can be found HERE.

SOUTH MANITOU ISLAND
According to the tale, there was a ship loaded with cholera-infected passengers that docked at the island. Sailors dug a huge mass grave and proceeded to bury the dead…and threw in some still-alive sufferers as well. Details are HERE.

TOWER CEMETERY
Locals and visitors who seek out this secluded graveyard report feeling a much cooler temperature as soon as you go through the cemetery gates. Some say it gets so cold, they can even see their breath...and yes, during summer months. Some have claimed that upon approaching the gates, they sometimes open by themselves, as if they are daring you to come in. Read more HERE.
