For the fourth year in a row, an Ohio man is going on an all-beer diet for lent in order to lose weight and raise money for charity.

Dell Hall weighed 325 pounds in 2018 before his first go-round with the all-beer diet. Today, he tips the scales at 269 pounds and hopes he can shed another 44 pounds by the time Easter rolls around in order to make it an even 100 pounds shed using suds.

Hall is the co-owner of Ohio's 16 Lots Brewing Company. He says he's not only lost weight by giving up everything but beer, he's also felt great.

Against Doctor's Orders

Hall says he consulted his doctor before going on the all-beer diet, and she tried to talk him out of it.

"She said, 'You're an idiot if you do this,' but she knows how strong-willed I am," Hall said. "Once she knew I was determined to see this through, she recommended I take multi-vitamins, stay hydrated, and she told me not to do anything stupid."

Hall tells WKRC-TV that he is indeed drinking water to stay hydrated but all of his calories are consumed through beer.

Drinking for Charity

This year, Hall hopes he can use his all-beer diet to raise money for a charity that is important to him, the Ken Anderson Alliance.

"I have a 15-year-old daughter who has cerebral palsy and even though she's a juvenile now, she's gonna be an adult with disabilities," Hall tells WCPO. "The Ken Anderson Alliance is an amazing foundation that actually supports adults with disabilities."
