With the greatly reduced travel on the roads these days, it seems like a really good time for road and bridge repairs and the Michigan Department of Transportation is taking advantage of the break in all of the traffic. So beginning next week, there will be some closures you should be aware of in Lansing.

PROJECT:

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be demolishing the eastbound I-496 bridge deck over Lansing Road. This work is part of MDOT's ongoing $60 million I-496 Pave the Way Project to improve I-496 between I-96 and Lansing Road.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS:
This work will feature two phases of ramp closures. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

Phase 1: The westbound I-496 ramp to Lansing Road and the West Saint Joseph Street ramp to Lansing Road will be closed and detoured 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Tuesday, April 21, to Thursday, April 23.

Phase 2: The westbound I-496 ramp to Lansing Road and the West Saint Joseph Street ramp to Lansing Road will be closed and detoured from 8 p.m. Friday, April 24, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 27.

SAFETY BENEFITS:
These improvements will provide increased safety and mobility in this area of the I-496, which is a significant local and national trade corridor.

ESSENTIAL WORK:
This road construction project is an essential function. Transportation workers in the field follow Centers for Disease Control guidelines to limit their risk of getting sick.
