Food is always a popular subject to write about. There are tons of dining options in the mid Michigan area that feature food from around the world.

I enjoy a nice meal out occassionally with my wife. We enjoy Dusty's Cellar and the Bistro in Williamston. We don't go out on date nights as much as we should. Most of the time we like to keep it simple when it comes to eating out. Sandwiches are always a good option for us if we are in a rush or it just sounds good.

I have to admit, I had never tried Panera until about two months ago. I was impressed with them. We always have a good experience with a "to go" or "pickup" order. Delivery, not so much. They outsource to "food delivery" companies and we gave up ordering delivery. We like the food so we get in the car to go get it. Mind blowing, right?

I like a cold, Italian sub. I am a fan of the red wine vinegar, oil and spices. It reminds me of getting subs in the Chicagoland area near O'Hare International Airport when I was a kid. There was something special about the provolone cheese and fresh cut meats they put on the sandwich.

My significant other likes Penn Station subs and they never were my favorite, but my most recent experience put them back on the map. I loved my warm Italian sub. The small was a good size portion for me and it had great flavor. I am not a huge fan of their fries because I like them a little more crispy. The prices aren't too bad overall and I think I'll try the chicken cordon bleu sub next time.

Jersey Giant Submarine Sandwiches - Lansing

I haven't had a Jersey giant sub since 2015 and guess what they still taste amazing! I got a #1 on wheat bread with sweet peppers. The half size is extremely filling and equates to two servings. This is a great place to stop by on the way to a tailgate or if you need to pick up a quick meal.

Weston's Kewpee Sandwich Shop - Lansing

"Look mom!  There are kids."  My youngest was impressed children (I'm guessing ten yo) were clearing our plates. Everyone was so kind during our visit.

There was something familiar about the creamy, salty sauce that oozed out between two buns with a thick hunk of beef. At first, I wasn't a fan but after a couple of bites, I got used to the brininess of the olives, which was intense at first.

My daughter had the club sandwich. She ate it so fast I didn't get a chance to try it. She said we should stop at Kewpee every time we go to Muskegon. She loved it.

History. They are a sister restaurant to Halo Burger in the Flint area and the inspiration for Wendy's square burgers.
