The Lansing State Journal reports that a 24 year old Bath man was kayaking the Grand River in Old Town Lansing yesterday afternoon just after 5:00 when he became separated from his kayak.

The Capital Area Dive Team, which consists of first responders from several different area agencies, searched for the man for hours before dark. The rescue operation was eventually called off because the search became too dangerous to continue. The cold, dark, water level and river speed were factors in the search suspension.

The search will resume this morning for the man. Unofficial reports indicate that he had been kayaking with his girlfriend when he lost control of his water craft.
