Shinedown Kicks Off World Tour With Explosive, Sold-Out Michigan Show

Shinedown officially launched its Dance, Kid, Dance Act II World Tour Saturday night before a sold-out crowd at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, delivering nearly two hours of explosive rock, heartfelt moments, and enough pyrotechnics to shake the entire venue.

Supporting the band's eighth studio album, Eight, the 30-city trek opened in Mt. Pleasant before making its way across the U.S. and Canada. Joining Shinedown for the evening for DJ Rockfeed, From Ashes To New, and progressive rock favorites Coheed and Cambria.

Fans filtered into the outdoor venue to the sounds of DJ Rockfeed spinning a nonstop mix of hard rock favorites, keeping the energy high between sets.

From Ashes To New and Coheed and Cambria Set the Stage

Pennsylvania rockers From Ashes To New got the live music underway with a high-energy set featuring songs including "New Disease," "Drag Me," and "Die For You" from the band's new album Reflections. Their performance blended rap, hard rock, and themes of mental health into a powerful opening set.

Next came Coheed and Cambria, who transformed the stage into a cinematic sci-fi adventure. The New York band ripped through fan favorites including "Searching For Tomorrow," "A Favor House Atlantic," and the unmistakable "Welcome Home," earning one of the loudest ovations of the night.

As darkness settled over the venue, it was finally time for Shinedown.

Eric Bass' Absence Made Opening Night Even More Meaningful

The band's lineup looked a little different than usual. Just days before the tour began, bassist Eric Bass announced he was stepping away temporarily to focus on his mental health after recently experiencing what he described as a mental health crash. Friends Josh Strum and Zack Mack stepped in after learning more than 40 songs in less than a week, earning praise from guitarist Zach Myers during the show.

Early in the performance, Shinedown dedicated both "Call Me" and "Get Up" to Bass, with frontman Brent Smith asking fans to keep him in their thoughts while he recovered.

Pyrotechnics, Emotion and a Powerful Message

From there, the production shifted into high gear.

Fireballs erupted above the stage. Towers of smoke blasted skyward. Cascading sparks rained down as Shinedown powered through hit after hit, including "Cut The Cord," "Monsters," "Devil," and "If You Only Knew."

As spectacular as the production was, the band's message proved just as memorable.

Smith reminded the crowd that music has the unique ability to bring people together, asking everyone to close their eyes and think about someone they had lost.

"They are not gone," he told the audience. "They are everywhere. They are here with us tonight."

The emotional moment transitioned into "A Symptom of Being Human," with thousands of cellphone lights illuminating the night sky. Smith also explained that this year's tour partnered with City of Hope, donating one dollar from every ticket sold to support cancer research.

'Simple Man' Becomes One of the Night's Most Emotional Moments

Later in the evening, Myers picked up an acoustic guitar and led the audience through the opening verse of 3 Doors Down's "Kryptonite" before seamlessly transitioning into the band's beloved cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man." During the third verse, Smith dedicated the performance to late 3 Doors Down frontman Brad Arnold, calling him "a great individual, in and out of the music industry."

Shinedown Ends Historic Night at Soaring Eagle

The sold-out crowd sang nearly every lyric throughout the night, prompting Myers to tell fans that they had once again made Mt. Pleasant feel like home and had set the standard for the rest of the tour.

Shinedown closed the evening with its biggest hit, "Second Chance."

Before leaving the stage, Smith thanked fans for years of unwavering support, offering one final message:

"Be good... be good to each other... may God bless you all. It's never goodbye. It's just 'til next time."

As more than 13,000 fans streamed out of Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, they left knowing they had witnessed not only the opening night of a major world tour, but also what became the largest crowd and highest-grossing concert in the venue's history.
