Sorry, Michigan – the Polar Vortex Probably Didn’t Kill Most of the Stink Bugs
This was widely reported in all the states that were blasted with the cold weather, but a Michigan entomologist st says FAKE NEWS!
We all thought that it would be the ONE GOOD THING to come out of polar vortex - the sub-zero temps may have killed off the majority of our stink bugs. I, too, was fooled. Now, it’s back to reality.
Howard Russell is an entomologist at Michigan State University. He says that.c while bugs that were exposed to the cold would have died, most of them were hiding out in warm spaces, just like the rest of us. He says they’re “programmed to seek shelter in the fall” and that we problt won’t see an impact from the cold weather.
Bummer. Can’t blame them for being smart, though.
