“Tank” the K9 Helps Eaton County Sheriff’s Office Twice in One Day
We all love our pets, they are a part of our family, and bring love and companionship to their owners every day. Police dogs are also highly respected, and considered as important to the police force as their human partners. Dogs are often relied on to help soldiers in the field during conflicts in many parts of the world. And they get much the same respect as a soldier, because they put their lives on the line along with their military counterparts.
Local police departments use their K9 force every day in dangerous situations, and here in Delta Township they have Tank, who recently saved the day, not once, but twice in the same day.
WILX reports K9 Tank saves the day, as a dangerous shooting suspect was arrested. On Saturday January 23rd a shooting occurred at the Citgo gas station located at 4819 W. Saginaw in Delta Township. This suspect brazenly opened fire during the daytime hours with many potential innocent victims driving by. Luckily, no one was struck by any of the gunfire. ECSO Detectives worked with area police agencies and they were able to identify the suspect. Yesterday, February 3rd, ECSO executed a search warrant at the suspects apartment in Delta Township. As deputies went to arrest the suspect as he exited the building, he attempted to pull out a handgun on officers. ECSO K9 “Tank” intervened during this dangerous situation helping to secure the suspect. The suspect is currently lodged at the Eaton County Jail awaiting formal charges.
The Lansing Police Department, Michigan State Police, MSP aviation and Delta Fire assisted to make it a safe and successful operation. However Tank still wasn’t done doing his duty, later that evening Tank also assisted the department in tracking down another suspect.
Dogs have always been great companions for their owners and families, and specially trained police dogs are invaluable in stressful situations as they can assist the officers in ways other humans can’t. They earn the respect not only of the Police force, but the public they serve alongside their human officers. Congratulations to Tank for a job well done.
