One of the most exciting college football players in the state made a name for himself in a big rivalry win for CMU in Kalamazoo Wednesday.

The Mid-American Conference moved some its big games to week nights in order to attract a national audience. The marketing ploy is called "MACtion!" and while it's inconvenient for alumni like myself to attend mid-week games, the excitement has enabled the schools attract more talent.

Case in point: Central Michigan wide receiver Kalil Pimpleton.

The one time high school quarterback from Muskegon, who transferred to CMU from Power Five team Virginia Tech, went off in one five minute period near the end of the first half to pace the Chippewas to a 42-30 victory over the arch rival, allowing them to slip past the Broncos into second place in the extremely tight MAC West Division.

Pimpleton raced 70 yards with a punt return for Central's first score of the game with 5:03 left in the first half. He then caught an 11-yard touchdown pass to tie the game with just 1:06 left.

The Chippewa defense then forced Western into a fourth down situation, and the resulting punt went to Pimpleton at the five yard line. The diminutive receiver (5-9, 175) then sped away from the coverage for a school record 95 yard punt return for his third score in five minutes.

And here's highlights from the entire game, which returns the Victory Cannon back to Mount Pleasant for the first time since 2017, and only the third time in the past ten seasons. Fire Up Chips!
