Outdoor events are the norm this summer, everyone is tired of being inside all winter, now it’s time to enjoy the outdoors and get out with friends and find fun things to do. A couple Lansing area non-profits have joined together to create Block:Aid. This is a new event focusing on the downtown Lansing area.

This gathering encompasses simultaneous events over a three block area south of Washington Square. This family oriented event features live music and a nighttime market.

Fox 47 reports

Organizer Najeema Iman says she’s an import to Lansing and she’s been looking for ways to bring the community together since she moved here. Iman also says the events will feature something for everyone in the family. “They will have ax-throwing. There will be inflatable booths. There will be 60-plus vendors between myself and Lansing 501. So it's going to be a great time. You’ve got Smoothie Queen and Mr. Leslie’s Cheesecakes," Iman said.

They expect hundreds to come downtown between 5 and 10pm this Thursday June 10 for this event which is located in the 100 to 300 blocks of Washington Square as well as Artery Alley. They have set up four different stages for the live music events.

The group’s goal is to present several of these events throughout the summer season. Downtown Lansing is very welcoming for these type of gaterings, it brings people downtown for a unique experience. And a positive side effect of these events is more business for downtown venues that are open in the evening.

STOP! and detour your way through downtown as Lansing 5:01 partners with Downtown Lansing Inc. to close the streets to provide aid and support for Lansing’s downtown district and local businesses. Dance through the streets, sip on local drinks, tap along to the beats or grab a bite to eat while showing your LOVE for Lansing-based businesses along three blocks of Washington Square. BLOCK:AID will feature larger-than-life installations and activities, live music, local artists, boutiques, small businesses, food trucks and more to transform Washington Square like never before.
