Michigan is a huge state with a ton of destinations that people want to visit. Getting from Lansing to other locations in the mitten is easy to do. We can travel by rail, bus and airplane.

You can literally get to Traverse City from Lansing by bus or airplane. Sometimes you might need to combine means of travel. It could be a bus ride, train ride and plane ride. Lansing is served by Indian Trails, Amtrak, American Airlines and Delta Airlines.

I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to travel. I like looking at schedules and plotting out my trip so I can make the most of my time. Between the airlines, bus lines and trains, getting to destinations in Michigan are easy although you'll most likely want someone to pick you up from the station.

Maybe you're without a car but you want to get to Traverse City, you an get there. Fly from Lansing on Delta Airlines to Detroit, you'll have a layover but then you're back in the air on your way to Traverse City. I searched prices for later on this month and you can check out the results here, it's not a cheap flight but you can get there if you want to. Flights will always be the most expensive way to travel.

Maybe your budget is tight, take the bus. Indian Trails can get you just about anywhere in Michigan and it's a lot cheaper then taking a plane. Taking the bus is an aquired taste for sure.

Riding the train is not only convenient but it's fun too. Travel from East Lansing aboard Amtrak. This is my favorite way to travel. Amtrak runs to Chicago in the morning with stops in Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Dowagiac, Niles and New Buffalo. The return trip in the evening from Chicago adds stops after East Lansing including Durand, Flint, Lapeer and Port Huron. See the Amtrak routes available in Michigan here. If you were set on getting to Grand Rapids from Lansing and wanted to take the train, you could. Take the train to New Buffalo and wait for the evening train to Grand Rapids that passes through New Buffalo. Where there's a will, there's a way.
