The Huron County Sheriff's Department reports that two men were ice fishing on Saginaw Bay this past weekend when they fell through the ice; they did not survive.

Authorities received a call around 2:30 yesterday afternoon from a friend of one of the men who had received a voicemail from one of the victims who said they needed help.

WNEM TV 5 reports that the men's bodies were recovered about 900 feet away from where their shanty and ATV were recovered. It's believed that "snow squalls, strong north winds, and very cold temperatures were also believed to have played a big part in this tragedy."

Considering the recent thaw, the Michigan DNR has some ice reminders here.
