In a report from the Detroit Free Press, the most dangerous stretches of freeway in Michigan were revealed, based on accident and injury data from 2018. Two of those roadways are right here in Ingham County.

The cited data in the Detroit Free Press comes from Michigan Auto Law, a group of auto accident attorneys. The data shows that a portion of I-96 in Mid-Michigan is the area's most dangerous stretch. Eastbound I-96 between Williamston and Webberville saw 22 total crashes in 2018, resulting in 5 injury crashes.

US-127 also made the report, specifically, the Southbound lanes between Michigan Avenue and Kalamazoo Street, near Frandor. There were 17 total accidents resulting in 10 wrecks that caused injury. This accounts for the highest number of injury accidents on any roadway in Ingham County.

Other data revealed in the report shows that January and February had the highest number of injury accidents in 2018 compared to other months. Fridays and Mondays were the most common days for injury accidents during the week, and the afternoon rush period was the most opportune time frame in 2018 for injury accidents.

Semi-trucks, merging traffic, and distracted driving were cited as the most common causes of injury accidents in 2018.
