WILX.com reports that Volkswagen is issuing a major recall affecting some 679,000 of its vehicles.

The issue targeted is a possible build up of silicate on the shift lever switch that could allow the key to be removed from a vehicle while it was not in park. This could lead to a vehicle rolling away unexpectedly.

The models being recalled are 2011-2018 VW Jettas, 2015-2019 GTI models, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019 Golfs, 2012-2019 Beetles and Beetle Convertibles, and 2017-2019 Golf SportWagens. All of the affected vehicles have automatic transmissions, keyless entry, and manual hand brakes.

Volkswagen dealers will begin seeing recalled models on October 11, 2019. For full details, visit this link to WILX.com.
