Per tradition, some 2,500 sea lions have descended upon Port of Astoria, at the mouth of the Columbia River, to feast upon the spawning salmon. They do a lot of damage to the docks by breaking them, as well as keeping renters from leasing slips; estimates are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

They've tried an giant inflatable Orca (Orca whales eat sea lions), but it sank. They've tried tethered beach balls, plastic fencing and more, but no luck in keeping the sea lions 'at bay'. They decided to try 'air dancers' - you know, "wacky, waving, inflatable, arm-flailing tube-men"!
