Where Did Huggy Wuggy Come From?

Huggy Wuggy is a character from a survival horror video game called Poppy Playtime. Huggy Wuggy and Poppy Playtime sound like they are something for little kids but this was developed for adults to play.

MOB Games is the developer of the game. The game takes place at an abandoned toy factory. The player takes the role of a former employee at the company who is going through the factory 10 years after it has closed. There are puzzles to solve as the player navigates through the game trying to avoid various enemies.

If you are an adult and would like a closer look at the game, here is a link to an online version.

Who Is Huggy Wuggy?

Huggy Wuggy sounds like it is for kids just from the theme song above but it is not for kids and that is where the mess up is because you can find the character all over YouTube. Kids nowadays use YouTube like adults use the TV, in most cases, it's their main form of media.

Lyrics to the Huggy Wuggy Theme:

Huggy Wuggy, when he hugs you, he'll never stop!
Your friend Huggy!
Huggy Wuggy,
He'll squeeze you until you pop

Huggy Wuggy is a major antagonist in the 2021 horror video game Poppy Playtime and serves as the main antagonist in the first chapter "A Tight Squeeze. When Huggy catches you he hugs you until your head pops off then eats you.

The problem when you have a successful game is the people on the internet like to create their own spinoff videos and theme songs and often use the real characters to make their videos. Look at all the metal videos that have been created out of Sponge Bob Square Pants cartoons.

WOOD reported that the spin-off videos have created alternate lines in the voice of Huggy Wuggy saying "sharp teeth leave you bloody...hug me till you die."

Some kids in West Michigan have been acting out what Huggy Wuggy does at school which has led to some concerns by teachers and parents alike. Nothing bad has happened because of this but at the same time, it can be alarming.

Kids can have nightmares from just about anything, but when they stumble upon a character that looks like and sounds like it is for them, they will watch, and it's easy for a parent who hears it in the background to not notice since it sounds so child friendly when in fact it is not.

As a parent, you may want to explain that Huggy Wuggy and Poppy Playtime are not for little kids and if you can eliminate them using parental controls you may want to block any of Poppy Playtime content from your little ones.

Poppy Playtime is made for kids and adults to play with, but it is for older kids and not kids under 12.
