Get ready for some extra congestion in East Lansing beginning Monday as one of the main traffic arteries will undergo lane closures for about two weeks.

According to an alert issued by East Lansing Police Department, the Westbound lanes of Grand River Avenue will close beginning Monday, November 4. Underground utility work will force the closures, as crews connect the new downtown developments to the city water main.

The alert says that one lane of Westbound traffic on Grand River Avenue will be maintained throughout the length of the project.  But, motorists should find an alternate route to help relieve any congestion,

Monday, November 4 through Friday, November 8, the far left and center lanes of the roadway will be closed, leaving a narrow right lane available directly adjacent to the development project. Work will be suspended on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10. Then, on Monday, November 11, the center and right lanes will be closed until the project is completed on Friday, November 15.
