A friend of mine posted this recently on Facebook:

"I got a parking ticket in the mail now at $75 from downtown Lansing, Michigan with no notification at all, including the day I received it. I called the court and they basically said they don't know what they can do about it, but I remember running over my meter that day and went outside to check for a ticket and there was none. I would have just paid it the day of so it didn't accrue so many fees. It was never there, and it definitely didn't "blow away" -- does anyone have any advice on how to handle this? I have to go in to talk to the magistrate about it but they said she might not 'be able to do anything' about it."

Some of the comments on her story suggested that she should just pay it and forget about it - wouldn't be worth the time spent fighting it.

One person said they recently were notified of a parking ticket from 2008 which they were completely unaware of before then.

What would you do?
