Michigan State's defense last year was one of the best I have ever seen in college football. This year, the defense just hasn't been as good, especially in the 4th quarter. MSU has been outscored in the 4th quarter this year 54-28. The defense seemed to score every game last year but this year they don't seem to have the same edge but the offense at times, has been way better than last year. Tony Lippett is having a career year and doubled his career TD total of 4 with 8 TD catches this year. The running game has more balance than last year but the defense will need to get better in order to beat Ohio State when they visit Spartan Stadium November 8.

Some oddsmakers have made MSU the favorite to win the National Championship. Click here to see that story from mlive.com and Mike Griffith.

Even to be mentioned is validation of the rise of the MSU program under coach Mark Dantonio. 7 straight bowl trips. Big 10 and Rose Bowl Champs of 2013. Are they even as good as last year?
