Living in Michigan has some ups and downs. For those that have lived in Michigan for their lives, the weather is something that we can never predict. It can change at any time. We know this to be true. What about the outrageous myths about Michigan that exist?
Some myths about Michigan are simple to squash. Myths about Michigan could be solved by picking up a map. Some myths could've been eliminated if some folks would've paid attention in elementary school. Other myths have legs because of what people have seen in the news regarding cities within our state.
Myths are meant to be busted right? Ok, let's take a look at some of the outrageous myths about Michigan and prove them right or prove them wrong. Michigan has more than one brand of "Pop", contrary to what out-of-state residents think. Once again I asked for feedback and you came to the plate ready to swing. What happens to you when you tell someone you are from Michigan? Was that person paying attention in class? Michigan is a huge state that has more than Detroit. Do people in Texas get free beef because beef is associated with their state? The answer is no. While there are myths about other states, we're going to focus on our beloved Mitten.

Some believe that we only drink Faygo and Vernor's. NOT TRUE, we have a fine selection of soft drinks in Michigan including Pepsi and Coca-Cola.
Detroit is the Capital
If you paid attention when they taught state capitals in elementary school you would know the correct answer. NOT TRUE, Lansing is the state Capital.
We Can't Swim in Great Lakes
NOT TRUE, the Great Lakes are freshwater. Swim away, there are no sharks. Maybe some 3 eyed fish in the waters near Gary, Indiana but not on our shorelines.
Everyone in Battle Creek Gets Free Cereal
Battle Creek was once the cereal capital of the world. NOT TRUE, residents wish they got free cereal.
Flint Must Have Clean Drinking Water By Now

While we have a great agriculture state. There is more than farms in Michigan. We have homes too, with driveways. NOT TRUE.

NOT TRUE, most couches are burned in Cedar Village. It's a select few morons that do this, not the entire campus.
All Michigan Residents Work in the Auto Industry
The auto industry is vital to our state. While it employs thousands of Michigan residents, there are other job opportunities. You could work at a zoo, drive a bus, or do something outside of the auto industry. NOT TRUE.
Colorado Sells Better Marijuana
Ok, I haven't smoked in years. With the legalization of marijuana in Michigan sales have been through the roof. While I don't burn, there's been plenty of feedback saying this myth is NOT TRUE.
Michigan Residents are Too Nice
If that's a myth I will be the first to say that it is NOT TRUE. Michigan has some very kind people, but I've also met some really awful people in our state. It's not a Michigan thing, it's all over the U.S. Be kind.
