Who doesn’t love ice cream? I’ve had a love affair with that sweet frozen treat since I was a kid chasing the ice cream truck down the street, looking for a push up, a nutty buddy or a dreamsicle. Growing up in Atlanta they made the Sealtest brand of ice cream down south, and they had the best vanilla I’ve ever had. I know I’m kinda boring, but vanilla is my favorite, and probably strawberry ice cream is my second favorite.

It’s always fun on a hot summer day to head to your favorite ice cream parlor and enjoy a little bit of heaven. Maybe a Banana Split, or a hot Fudge Sundae, or even just a vanilla cone dipped in chocolate and rolled in peanuts. The options are endless, and the soft serve ice cream flowing out of these places brings back old summertime family memories. My Mom and Dad used to take me out for a cone quite often during the summer.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
