The woman in the picture with her arms around the children is a lifelong friend of mine.

Her name is Janet (Rhodes) Hines and she graduated Webberville in 1992. Janet and I were in Speech class together. It was the first time I ever found a use for my loud mouth skills. In that class, she and the rest of my classmates created the monster that became Joey Pants. Janet and I were close friends and she encouraged me to be an idiot. Say what was on my mind and let the funny come out. She is a character, one of the funniest people I have ever met and she has a heart of gold. In that class I discovered how to turn disaster into material. Take the horrible and make it funny. There is no way to make this funny.

Janet worked ar Dr, James Barone's dentist office in Webberville and got very close to my mom and brother Jerry. She and I reconnected a few years ago, when I moved back to Webberville. Later, I found out she was fighting ovarian cancer. She never said a word about it and you really couldn't tell. She has been fighting cancer now for 5 years.

In December around Christmas, my mom accidently took too much coumadin and had to be hospitalized. Janet was also at Sparrow on the cancer floor. The day she was to be released, she ventured up in her patient clothes to visit my mother for a few precious moments. That is who she is. Fighting cancer and making time to visit my mom. It made my moms day.

Janet's 6 year-old daughter has never known her mom NOT fighting cancer. She recently had a very productive surgery and will begin chemotherapy again to try and reduce the remaining tumor. We are trying to help Janet in her fight. Not only with financial help but by showing her she has the support of community and friends. There are a few ways you can help if you choose. I live by the golden rule: Do on to others what you would want done to you. I also believe everything you give comes back to you, one way or another.

Friday, you can come out in person to make a donation, make a bid in the silent auction, purchase some delicious baked goods, purchase a t-shirt or try your luck in the 50/50 raffle. However you can help is appreciated. Janet really needs our help.

We are graciously accepting donations for the Silent Auction, please contact Coach Kris Tennant at 517-449-4914 or Coach Nate Lott. There will be some WMMQ goodies and other radio station related swag.
