Rest Areas Can Be Startling, Presenting: The Best In Michigan
As we hit the road this summer for roadtrips let's remember to "hit the head" before we hit the road. Roadtrips can be worrisome for our bladders but thankfully we have rest stops along the highway that we can use. Some rest stops are better then the rest. Let's look at some of the best rest stops in Michigan.
A rest stop is necessary for two reasons for me. If I have to go, I have to go. That's the first reason I stop at a rest stop. The second reason, although it's rare, is to stretch my legs and take a break. Every time I walk into a rest stop in Michigan I am a little nervous about the cleanliness. Rest stop or rest area bathrooms are a lot cleaner nowadays then they were when I was growing up. The rank smell of sewage and waste at rest stops is hard to come by, thank goodness.
I have noticed that the "welcome centers" at the state line and throughout Michigan are bigger and more lavish than the ones that are further into the state. It makes sense, Michigan wants to give visitors to our state a good first impression. I have used the rest stops in the U.P. along 2 and they are old school with a hole and some toilet paper. Not my first choice, if you have to go, it's better there than in your pants.
You shared some of your favorite rest stops in Michigan and here they are.

Clare Welcome Center is the only rest area I ever stop at.
Agreed, this rest stop is clean and it's easy on easy off the highway. I also feel like I close to "up north".

Rest Stops Aren't Too Bad But This Truck Stop Is Horrible
None of them are really that bad anymore after upgrading them over the years. I do remember some that looked like you were driving through a ghetto neighborhood with a parking lot that looked like a bunch of mortar bombs went off. Worst truck stop I've been to ? Now, that's a whole story in itself. I'd have to say the truck stop at M-51 (Decatur/Dowagiac) an I-94 (hands down)
