We all know by now that we will have a white Christmas. Snow is supposed to start falling tomorrow afternoon (Thursday 12/22) and it will be heavy at times. There is a Winter Storm Watch in effect from 4pm Thursday (12/22) thru 7pm Saturday (12/24).

There is the potential for blizzard like conditions with strong, gusty winds. In a nutshell, winter is here and it's not taking prisoners. The mid Michigan area is looking at varying amounts of snowfall. We could get anywhere from six to eightenn inches of snow, depending on where you are located. Check out potential mid Michigan snowfall totals here.

What kind of steps are you taking to be prepared? Allied Universal suggests:

Create an emergency kit that has enough supplies for three to seven days. In it should be at least one gallon of water daily per person, non-perishable packaged or canned food and juices, handheld can opener, cooking tools/fuel, paper plates and plastic utensils, blankets and pillows, seasonal clothing and snow gear, a first-aid kit, medications and prescriptions, toiletries, battery operated flashlights and radio with spare batteries, and cash because banks and ATMs may not be available. Make sure your cell phone is fully charged. Have a plan ahead of time to help elderly or disabled friends, neighbors or employees. Stock up on salt and make sure you have a shovel.

Be that neighbor that checks on your other neighbors. Knock on your elderly neighbors doors to make sure they are ok.

Common sense can go a long way with regard to the snow. If you don't have to drive in it, don't. If you don't need to be outside in it, avoid it.

Don't stress over the weather, next week's hi's are supposed to be in the upper 40's, the snow is going to melt.
